Polished Concrete is achieved through a process of diamond grinding and polishing.

  • Polishing your concrete slab allows you to use what you already have.
  • No new flooring materials need to be purchased, trucked in, demolished or disposed of.
  • Because the finish is produced by a mechanical grinding, honing, and polishing process, polished concrete is very durable and abrasion resistant.  Many retail and warehouse environments run forklifts and other wheeled equipment over polished concrete floors throughout the day.
  • The BGP process creates a floor where dust is unable to penetrate, get trapped or hide.  Clean up is efficient and simple (potential labor savings).
  • Floor maintenance and cleaning costs can be substantially reduced:  Daily cleaning can be accomplished with a dust mop, spills or weekly cleaning require no chemicals, waxes, or polish products.  NO extra chemicals to go down the drain or in the garbage.
  • We us a Dry Polishing System with HEPA filtration.  This allows us to safely and sustainably collect and recycle or dispose of the waste.
  • Polished Concrete floors can create a healthier working or living environment.  It produces Low to No VOC's (volatile organic compounds-produced by carpeting and other manufactured flooring).
  • Polishing Concrete floors leads to increased light reflectivity, potentially leading to a reduction in energy consumption.
  • Thermal mass properties of exposed concrete can help to ease heating and cooling costs (when warmed, it tends to stay warm-when cooled, it tends to stay cool).

  • Polishing Concrete is a mechanical process which requires the experience of a stone-working craftsman. We use industrial grade diamonds and specialized concrete floor grinders equipped with HEPA dust collection equipment.
  • Your concrete slab is unique.  Our years of experience have taught us that every concrete floor is different.  Unique reactions occur every time concrete is mixed, formed, poured, set and finished.  BGP has been on the job from Ukiah to Fresno to San Jose.  Hard concrete, soft concrete, stained concrete, cracked, spalled, we have worked on many floors in Northern California, all with many different characteristics.
  • Do not rely on photos or handheld samples.  Have a mock-up or sample patch produced on your concrete.  Your concrete's natural color will depend mostly on the color of the sand and the cement used in your slab.  In order to get an accurate sense of what kind of floor your slab can produce, a sample will need to be ground and polished on site.  This also pertains to applying a color dye or stain to your slab.
  • Before you pour your slab, please call us for tips and suggestions on how to ensure you best polished concrete floor.  This call could save you lots of time, money and disappointment.
  •  BGP polished concrete slab does not have a glossy sealer, wax or clear coating on top to make it shine.  During our process, however, we do use a water-based concrete densifier.  This densifier penetrates and forms a chemical bond with your concrete, making it more abrasion and  wear resistant near the surface.  This densifier will also increase slip resistance.
  • If you have an existing flooring or coating on your concrete such as paint, epoxy, carpet glue, thin-set tile adhesive etc., it will need to be removed first.  This step usually requires extra time and cost.
  • BGP is a Certified installer for several concrete polishing systems including FGS Permashine, RetroPlate, LM Scofield, BASF, and Euclid.


  • The process of grinding and polishing a concrete floor includes a series of steps where BGP makes multiple passes across your floor with our walk-behind planetary floor grinder/polishers.
  • These planetary grinders have diamond pads attached underneath to grind/polish the floor.
  • Each time we finish going over the entire floor, we evaluate the condition of he slab and change the pads to a finer grit when appropriate.
  • We keep changing to a finer grit until we reach your desired level of gloss or reflectivity.
  • Edging is done by hand and requires expert experience to accomplish successfully.  The large floor machines can leave from two to six inches of unpolished floor from the edge of the walls, columns or islands.  This space is ground and polished using hand power tools.  The number of grit changes for the edging should equal the grit changes for the main floor.  Edges turn out BEST when baseboards are removed before floor installation.
